IIT Madras Student Satellite Initiative

iitmsat is a student satellite program initiated by students of Indian Institute Of Technology Madras. The program will involve students from different years and courses, with varied interest and skills providing them opportunity to learn about and gain experience in designing and constructing satellite systems.

The program aims to develop appreciation and interest among the youth towards space technology and provide a platform for inter-disciplinary participation and collaboration between various departments within the institute.

The first step of the program is to design and construct a small artificial satellite consisting of two payloads (Giant Magneto Impedance Magnetometer and High Energy Particle Detector) and finally launch it into orbit within the next two years. The students would work with guidance from faculty in IIT Madras and other institutes like Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale De Lausanne , Switzerland (EPFL), Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).
